The Role of STPI in the growth of the IT industry has been tremendous, especially in the case of start-up SMEs. STP scheme the catalyst The STP scheme is a 100 percent export-oriented scheme for the development and export of computer software, including export of professional services using communication links or physical media. This scheme is unique in its nature as it focuses on one product/sector, i.e. computer software. The scheme integrates the government concept of 100 percent Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and the concept of Science Parks/Technology Parks, as operating elsewhere in the world. The total exports from the STPI-registered units under STPI-Hyderabad has gone from Rs. 4.76 crore in 1992-93 to Rs. 1,23,966.85 crore in FY 2023-24.

IMAGE at Hyderabad

IMAGE CoE, an initiative by STPI at Hyderabad to provide resources such as mentoring, technology support and funding for Gaming, Animation, VFX, Computer Vision and AI startups, was launched 17th February 2020. With 10,000 sq. ft. built-up space at STPI-Hyderabad, IMAGE offers integrated programs, CVLAB and GameLab, for startups to scale up through its incubation facility. IMAGE has onboarded 66 startups. IMAGE has 51 mentors, 12 partners, and it has conducted 5 training/mentorship programs.

CoE in Industry 4.0 at Visakhapatnam

Kalpataru is a Center of Entrepreneurship established under the guidance & tutelage of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Industry 4.0. Kalpataru fosters the spirit of growth and dynamism to help tech-based innovators establish a solid global standing from start to finish. Right from infrastructure and funding to marketing leading innovations, this CoE aims to create futuristic minds that promote the idea of Make In India. The Centre of Entrepreneurship offers an ecosystem where ideas can grow and come to life in Industry 4.0. To bring these colossal initiatives to fruition, Kalpataru gives participants access to support from bankers, financial institutions, mentors, investors, and a platform that helps them market their solutions.

This scheme is unique in its nature as it focuses on one product/sector, i.e. computer software. The scheme integrates the government concept of 100 percent Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and the concept of Science Parks/Technology Parks, as operating elsewhere in the world. To empower the industry and enable them to start their operations immediately, STPI-Bengaluru developed 4,500 sq. m. space by 1993 and 12 STPI-registered units were operating from the centre. The total exports from the STP units under STPI-Bengaluru has gone from Rs. 39 crore in 1993 to Rs. 3.55 lakh crore in FY 2022-23.

CoE - IoT OpenLab

STPI has setup a CoE IoT OpenLab at Bengaluru in collaboration with Arrow Electronics, supported by MeitY, Govt of India, with an objective of creating a technological platform that will enable innovative start-ups to develop disruptive IoT-based applications, products & solutions across all the sectors. The IoT Lab is spread over an area of 4200 sq. ft. and shall benefit an estimated 500 startups over a period of 5 years. 130 startups have been selected and 67 startups has already on boarded. AIC STPI Bengaluru

AIC STPI Bengaluru is spread over 10,000 sq. ft. of area and has been equipped with state-of-the art physical infrastructure, lab with Healthcare equipment such as Vital Sign Monitor, ECG Simulator, Neuro Stimulator & 3D Printer, and other common office facilities with a target to incubate about 65 innovative and disruptive technology start-ups over a period of 5 years. CoE - Efficiency Augmentation

A CoE on Efficiency Augmentation is being setup up by STPI in collaboration with Government of Karnataka. This CoE shall be of international standard to bring together the international community, industry to debate, deliberate, act and innovate in both the industry (infrastructure & business transformation) and people development, to address technology’s impact on industry. SMART Lab

STPI in collaboration with Govt. of Karnataka has set up a Semiconductor Measurement Analysis & Reliability Test (SMART) Lab at Bengaluru in December 2017 to enable startups and semiconductor companies to test their chip designs locally and reduce product design cycle and operation costs. SMART Lab is equipped with the latest high-end Semiconductor Test, Measurement and Reliability Test equipment and is aimed at supporting the growth of Electronic and Semiconductor Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) companies in India. The SMART Lab being used by 52 ESDM companies since inception.

Advanced Internet Operations Research in India

“Advanced Internet Operations Research in India (AIORI)” is a Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India project which is being implemented by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) with an outlay grant-in-aid fund for Rs. 424 Lakhs over the project period of 3 years. STPI-Kolkata is the nodal office collaborating with ISOC-Kolkata and India Internet Foundation (IIFON), Kolkata for completion of this project.

Infrastructure Development

To further bolster the incubation ecosystem in Kerala, STPI-Thiruvananthapuram has developed state-of-the-art infrastructure in Thiruvananthapuram (38,207 sq. ft.) and Kochi (41,274 sq. ft.). The new infrastructure houses all the modern amenities, needed for the startup ecosystem, and will benefit them by providing 150 plug-n-play seats and 12,750 sq. ft. of raw space in Kochi and about 200 plug-n-play seats in Thiruvananthapuram.
