Fostering AgriTech Startups for Augmenting Livelihood
A CoE for IoT in Agriculture at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), Akola.

Objective: To create a holistic ecosystem for encouraging innovation, R&D and entrepreneurship in AgriTech domain and to address the problems of farmers in the region to increase their productivity and profitability.

Focus Areas: Digital Farming, Smart Techniques for Crop Protection & Management, Forecasting using Predictive Analytics, Enhancing Farmer income in off-season using Hydroponic Vertical Farming System.

Location: Dr. PDKV is one of the oldest Agricultural University, established on 20th October 1969. Akola district is also land of cotton which is famously known as white gold district of Maharashtra State. However, with scanty rains and very limited irrigation facilities at disposal, cotton farmers are often exposed to higher risks that many times result in loss of income. The second largest crop grown in Vidarbha region is Soybean which is predominant in kharif season. Keeping in view of these facts, a CoE in mentioned domain has been established to address the problems of farmers in this region.

Partners: The partners include Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), STPI, AIC STPINEXT, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), Akola, College of Engineering & Technology, Akola, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Akola, ICAR - Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, Agriculture Insurance Company Ltd. (a PSU under Ministry of Finance), ioCare Pune, Amazing Aerial Solutions Pune, SatSure Analytics India Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE), New Delhi and TiE Mumbai.

Target Beneficiaries: Support and nurture 25 startups over a period of 3 years.

Duration: 3 years. 

Budget & Source of Funding: Total Budgetary outlay for the project is Rs. 1095 lakh shared by MeitY (Rs. 1022.25 lakh), STPI (Rs. 54.75 lakh), and Industry Partners (Rs. 18 lakh).
